Frequently Asked Questions
What is your training approach?
I use positive reinforcement and science-backed training methods based on how animals actually learn. As a Karen Pryor Academy Certified Training Partner, I specialize in clicker training to clearly communicate which behaviors are being reinforced.
My focus is on teaching what to do, rather than correcting what not to do. For example, teaching a dog to sit calmly for greetings instead of punishing jumping. This creates confident learners and helps build long-lasting behaviors without fear, force, or intimidation.
Do you use shock collars, prong collars, or correction-based methods?
No. I do not use shock collars, prong collars, choke chains, or punishment-based techniques. My work is grounded in humane, evidence-based practices that prioritize both learning and emotional well-being.
Is my pet too old to be trained?
Absolutely not. Dogs and cats of all ages can learn new behaviors. While senior pets may have physical or medical considerations that affect how we train, I adapt plans to support their comfort, focus, and success at any stage of life.
Are cats trainable? Is it worth it to train my cat?
Yes. Cats are intelligent, capable learners and often benefit greatly from training. Clicker training provides mental stimulation, supports cooperative care, and can help with safety behaviors such as coming when called or waiting at doors—skills that can prevent escapes or keep your cat safe in unexpected moments.
Training can also reduce boredom and stress while strengthening your relationship with your cat.
Do you work with aggressive dogs or dogs with a bite history?
For safety and ethical reasons, I do not take cases involving dogs with a known bite history. These situations are best supported by a board-certified veterinary behaviorist who can evaluate both medical and behavioral factors.
If your dog shows aggression without a bite history, please reach out—I'm happy to discuss whether your situation falls within my scope.
I'm happy to help refer you to appropriate professionals when needed.
Do you work with fearful or reactive dogs?
I work with a limited number of fear or reactivity cases on a case-by-case basis, depending on severity and safety considerations. In many situations, I recommend working in collaboration with a veterinary behaviorist to ensure your dog receives comprehensive support, including medical and behavioral care.
This team-based approach often leads to the best long-term outcomes.
How long does it take to see results?
Every pet and household is different. Some families notice changes within a few sessions, while more complex goals—like addressing long-standing fear or reactivity—may take weeks or months of consistent work. My focus is on building sustainable skills and understanding, rather than quick fixes.
Do you offer in-home, virtual, or group training?

Additionally, I plan to offer group classes in the next month or so designed to build skills and confidence in a supportive environment. Reach out if you'd like to be notified when they launch.
During your consultation, we’ll discuss which format best fits your lifestyle and training objectives.

What should I expect from a free consultation?
Your free consultation is a chance to talk through your concerns, your pet's history, and your goals. I'll ask questions to understand your situation and help determine whether we're a good fit.
We'll also discuss which training format works best for you—day training, private coaching, group classes, or online options—and go over pricing and logistics.
If it feels like a good fit, you're welcome to book your first session right away, or take time to think it over and reach out when you're ready. There's no pressure.
